| Region 6 police director Isagani Cuevas yesterday said he will recall the 10 policemen whose transfer to Negros Occidental, had been opposed by local government officials.
The assignment of 10 policemen who had been described as ‘ineffective” in their previous assignments in Iloilo and Guimaras, by their respective commanders, had been vehemently opposed by Governor Isidro Zayco and two members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
Cuevas told the DAILY STAR that the recall of the Iloilo and Guimaras-based policemen was done after his dialog with Zayco Thursday.
He, however, clarified that the recall order will only cover those re-assigned to Negros Occidental, and not those transferred to other provinces in Western Visayas and had sought for transfer.
Zayco, Board Members Renato Gustilo and Nehemias de la Cruz, had said the Police Regional Office 6 should not make Negros Occidental dumping ground for policemen facing complaints.
Senior Supt. Rosendo Franco, provincial police director, however, also said yesterday that there is no official communication yet from PRO 6 for the recall of the 10 policemen.
Franco said the recall order may put to an end the trial of publicity of 10 policemen, who, he claimed, were “condemned without basis”.
Cuevas had earlier said that the 10 policemen re-assigned to Negros Occidental do not have pending cases, except that they allegedly engaged in moonlighting activities, have failed to report to their assigned duties, and are frequently seen in cockpits.
Seven other policemen were re-assigned to other provinces of the Western Visayas, the 6th Regional Mobile Group, and Camp Crame.
Cuevas said these policemen need “reformation” to make them effective in implementing the laws and in the maintenance of peace and order.*GPB
