The La Salle bets swept athletics, lawn tennis, swimming, volleyball and beach volleyball in the collegiate division.

Their other collegiate titles came in sepak takraw and table tennis.

Bacolod United, Trimaxi
forge championship duel

BY CEDLEF TUPAS

Bacolod United and Trimaxi pulled the rug from under the top two teams yesterday and forged a championship showdown in the Villa Valderrama 9-a-side Football Tournament at the Villa Valderrama pitch in Bacolod City.

Bannered by veteran players, United had Ed Borromeo and former national team striker Norman Fegidero to thank for in its narrow 2-1 victory over No. 2 team LRY-Europa.

Borromeo scored what turned out to be the winning goal, after Fegidero had given United the lead 15 minutes into the match. Eliseo Palomo struck in the 65th minute to keep Europa’s hopes alive but it wasn’t enough as United, which drew with Europa twice in the eliminations, held firm.

in nat’l beach volley tilt

Bacolod City-based schools University of St. La Salle, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos and Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod will see action in the men and women’s competition of the Visayas leg of the Nestea Beach Volleyball Tournament.

The tournament starts Tuesday at the USLS sandcourt with La Sallians Mark Sabusap and Marlon Luces hoping to finally crack the national finals after falling short by one victory in last year’s eliminations in Manila.

Despite their familiarity with the venue, the local pair believes it is not the favorite to win the crown.
