Dumaguete port to reopen today

The Philippine Ports Authority will reopen the Dumaguete port today, taking over the disputed cargo-handling services for one month while top level talks continue in an attempt to solve the ongoing labor problem.

Renato Tolinero, Dumaguete port manager, said the order to reopen the port was signed by PPA General Manager Oscar Sevilla.

Tolinero said the port will reopen at 8 a.m., three days after he closed it Wednesday due to the labor dispute.

TF 24 collars drug suspect

A drug suspect was apprehended by Task Force 24 in a buy-bust operation Wednesday for selling suspected shabu and marijuana leaves in Barangay Candau-ay, Dumaguete City.

Apprehended was Eugene Ramirez, 21, of Purok Saging in the barangay and a second year BS Electronics student of the Negros Oriental State University.

Police said Ramirez tried to elude arrest and this resulted in bruises in his knees and arms.  He was later arrested by operatives who cordoned the area.

Youth summer camp set at FU

The  Youth  for  Environment Summer Camp for grade  school, high  school  and  college  students will  be  held May 4 to 8 at Foundation University, in Dumaguete City.

The camp was initiated by the Department of Education center  for  students and  co-curricular affairs, Foundation University  and  the  Department of Environment and Natural Resources, DepEd–CSCA Executive Director Joey Pelaez said yesterday.

He said the camp is aimed at promoting awareness among the youth on the importance of protecting and preserving the environment.
