| Bacoleño swimming standout Kiefer Piccio has been selected to join the Philippine national training pool for posting a string of impressive performances in national competitions.
Piccio’s father, Jake, said Kiefer will train under the program of the Philippine Center for Excellence in Aquatic Sports at the TRACE Aquatic Complex in Los Baños, Laguna.
Kiefer, 14, is expected to transfer from the Bacolod Christian Center of Negros to the TRACE College, where he will enjoy full scholarship.
National coach Pinky Brosas said the PCEAS is a four-year program aimed at developing swimmers with the purpose of preparing & developing future Olympic qualifiers for the country.
The program’s key feature is its athlete support services, where key personalities in sports psychology and physical enhancement will be tapped to improve the athletes’ performance, Brosas said.
“In essence, our intentions are directed at creating the environment that allows the best swimmers to work together and provide service support from some of Philippine Sports best minds,” Brosas said in his letter to Piccio’s parents.
Jake Piccio said the PASA wants to form a core group composed of age-group standouts who will be fielded in the qualifiers in the 2012 Olympics in London.
Brosas said the system accommodates the ideal training hours for morning and afternoon workout sessions and will be given free international exposure based on their performance.*CPT
