| The Social Security System collected P11.62 billion in contributions from Visayas and Mindanao in 2007, 17 percent higher than its P9.94 billion collection in the previous year, SSS records show.
Collection from the two areas comprise 19 percent of the P62-billion total take from contributions in 2007, based on the results released during the SSS performance review conference held in Iloilo City recently.
SSS president Corazon de la Paz-Bernardo said in a statement the increase can be attributed to the growth in the over-the-counter payments at SSS branches and accredited banks in the Visayas and Mindanao.
The agency opened teller facilities in 12 branches in Visayas and Mindanao during the last quarter of 2007.
There are more than eight million SSS members in Visayas and Mindanao, including 2.23 million who are self-employed.
The SSS collected P724.3 million in overdue contributions from 41,193 delinquent employers in the Visayas and Mindanao last year, 19 percent higher than the P607.01 million paid in 2006, the press release said.
Payments through SSS-accredited banks rose to P5.59 billion from P5.10 billion in the previous year.*
