| Old grudges may have triggered the fatal stabbing of a videoke bar owner by a still unidentified person in Bacolod City early yesterday, the police said.
Elna Perez, 45, of Minoyan, Murcia town, Negros Occidental, died of stab wounds at her videoke bar at the highway of Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod, at about 1 a.m. yesterday, police records show.
Perez’s daughter, Dona, told Bombo Radyo that she was awakened by her mother who was already wounded about an hour after they closed their shop and had gone to sleep Tuesday night.
As of last night, Police Station 7 investigators said they neither had a definite angle nor a suspect in the incident yet, but Bacolod City Police Office director, Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar, said it could have been triggered by old grudges between Elna and her attacker.
Quebrar noted that it was only Elna who was harmed, while Dona and her half-brother, John Lloyd, 5, were sleeping beside her in their makeshift room at their bar made of bamboo, which, he said, could only mean that she was the only target.
Dona said Elna had a five-year affair with a family man from Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod and that the man’s wife had confronted her mother last month.
The videoke bar is also a joint venture of her mother and her lover, Dona said. She also recalled that her mother had refused to give beer on credit to one of their customers the night before.
After her father, Bernardo, died in 1999, Dona said her mother also had a lover, who was John Lloyd’s father, but who had left her since.
Elna’s remains are now at the Alisbo Memorial Chapels.*PP
