chances versus Thai

Negrense world boxing champion Gerry Peñalosa will not leave anything to chance when he defends his World Boxing Organization bantamweight crown against Thai Sor Vorapin on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

“I am concentrating on Vorapin. I will not give him a chance,” the southpaw from San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, said during the weekly PSA Forum in Manila.

Peñalosa knocked out Vorapin eight years ago in Manila and the Filipino thinks he can duplicate the feat.

eliminations  set in May

The Negros elimination of the Shakey’s Girls’ Volleyball League starts May 22 until June 1 at the University of St. La Salle College Covered Court, Roger Banzuela, president of the Negros Occidental Volleyball Association, said yesterday.

The tournament will determine the Negros Occidental representative in the GVL Tournament of Champions to face the winners from Iloilo, Cebu and Manila from June 12-14 at the USLS Covered Court.

Banzuela is inviting high school girls’ volleyball teams in the province to participate in the tournament. USLS-Integrated School topped the Negros elimination last year, beating Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School in the finals.
