Gov. Isidro Zayco yesterday expressed opposition to the assignment in Negros Occidental of 12 policemen who had been relieved from their posts in Iloilo and Guimaras for alleged involvement in illegal activities.

The governor said the province should not be made a dumping ground for policemen facing complaints and he will talk to PNP provincial director Senior Supt. Rosendo Franco about it.

Zayco said he will let Franco know his opposition on the assignment of these erring policemen, adding that they could be assigned anywhere except in Negros Occidental.moremoremore

Mayor urged to consider
other lots for dumpsite
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

A resolution requesting the mayor to consider other lots that will serve as a dumpsite at a cheaper price while negotiations are on-going with the Lopez family concerning their property in Brgy. Felisa, Bacolod City, is being proposed by Councilor Homer Bais.

Ester Lopez of the Dynasty Agricultural Corporation has demanded for just compensation from the city for the use of their 7-hectare property as a dumpsite fixed at P600 per square meters, or a total of about P42 million.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia said the city is open to other offers as long as they comply with requirements of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. He said there were other areas which the city had wanted to use as a dumpsite before because these were more convenient. However, these areas did not pass the DENR requirements, he added.moremoremore

Alleged leader of
drug group nabbed anew
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

An alleged leader of a local drug group who was arrested twice for illegal possession of drugs, but released from jail, was again apprehended with his live-in partner, in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, on March 31.

Armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Catherine Go, a police team led by Supt. Harold Tuzon and Chief Inspector Victorino Romanillos, assisted by 6th Regional Mobile Group troopers, swooped down on the house of Angelito Duhaylungsod at Caballero Subdivision, Brgy. 4., in San Carlos City, acting on information that a supply of shabu from Cebu was brought in by his live-in partner, Silvia Abella.

Tuzon said the raid yielded about two grams of suspected shabu, four plastic sachets with shabu residue, and assorted drug paraphernalia, and the arrest of Duhaylungsod, 40 and Abella, 31.moremoremore
