TOSP Region 6 search
nominations extended

Colleges and universities in Western Visayas have until this Friday to submit their nominations for this year's regional search for Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines, a press release from Bacolod Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, chairperson of the Regional Executive Committee said.

The call for nominations has been extended from March 28 to coincide with the extension of the TOSP search in the National Capital Region.

The screening will be held on April 5 where 20 finalists will be chosen to undergo the TOSP Formation Workshop. Judging to determine the 10 TOSP awardees will be on April 17, the press release said.

The awarding ceremony and dinner hosted by Teleperformance Bacolod will be April 18 at 6 p.m. at the Negros Occidental Capitol Social Hall, in Bacolod.

The annual TOSP was founded in 1961 by Jose Concepcion, Jr., as a contribution in enhancing the potentials of the youth as catalysts of change.

In 1994, regional searches were initiated but it was only in 2005 that Region VI was integrated, the press release said.

Gallery sets gab

The Gallery Orange is inviting all art enthusiasts and aspiring artists, young and old, to a series of creative art workshops on April 7-30 at its premises at Lopue’s Annex Building at Mandalalgan, Bacolod City, a press release from organizers said.

Courses offered are Basic Drawing (Sketching), Cartooning (Comic Strip), Sculpture (Clay Modeling/ Terracotta), Pastel and Water Color and Painting (oil/ Acrylic), it also said.

Facilitators are Jose Carreon Jr., Jojo Regollo, Susanito Sarnate, Israel Mark Gonzales and Leah Samson.

Lacson to induct NPC officers

Sen. Panfilo Lacson Jr. will induct the new officers of the Negros Press Club at 7 p.m. Saturday, at the L’Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City, a press release from the club said.

The theme of the event is “Meeting the Challenges of the Time.”

To be inducted are Cyrus Garde – president, Henry Cestina – vice president, Edgar Cadagat – secretary, Chrysee Samillano – treasurer, and Arnold Diaz – auditor.

Members of the Board of Directors are Julius Mariveles, Aladdin Salas, Edith Colmo, Mae Singuay, Manny Canto, and Angelino Julita Jr. – ex-oficio, the press release said.

Lacson is a former director-general of the Philippine National Police.

Event overall chairman is Edith Colmo. Local officials will attend the event, the press release added.*

GAD conducts art workshop

The Bacolod City Gender and Development Council, in cooperation with the Babayi Artists Group and Barangay Taculing Council, held an art workshop for children Sunday, to mark the National Girl-Child Week, a press release from organizers said.

About 25 children were given basic drawing and painting lessons by Babayi artists Leah Divino-Samson, Yeye Moreño, Carmel and Starlight Hibaler at the Barangay Hall of Taculing, Bacolod City.

Spearheading the project was Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue as chairman of the GAD Council and Taculing Barangay Captain Alexander Diamante, Kagawads Lady Gles Gonzales and Rommel Sanson, the press release said.  

Pastel, paper, pencil and other drawing materials and lunch were provided to children by corporate sponsors, it also said.*
