Act on trafficking cases,
10 mayors in NegOr told

The Provincial Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking in Persons  has urged the mayors of the 10 local government units identified as trafficking hotspots in Negros Oriental to crack down on trafficking and exploitation activities in their areas.

Marlene Pepino, a PIACAT member and provincial coordinator of Visayan Forum Foundation, said a gathering sponsored by the Philippine Information Agency recently, that it was formed by the provincial government because of the growing cases of trafficking in persons.

She named the 10 hotspots as the cities of Bayawan, Guihulngan and Dumaguete, and the towns of Sta. Catalina, Siaton, Zamboanguita, Sibulan, San Jose, Amlan, and Mabinay.

Vis-Min regional sanitation
summit kicks off tomorrow

The Department of Interior and Local Government will hold a regional summit on sustainable sanitation tomorrow and Thursday at the Negros Oriental Convention Center, Dumaguete City.

The event, in partnership with the provincial government and the German Agency for Technical Cooperation, aims to take action on the crises in sanitation, and its theme is “Sharing our Contribution in Building a Strong Nation through Sustainable Sanitation.”

It also seeks to raise awareness among decision-makers for the necessity of a well functioning and sustainable sanitation, and encourage them to invest more on sanitation.

City to strictly enforce new
law on anti-rabies

Dumaguete City Health Officer Dr. Ma. Sarah Talla said her office will strictly enforce the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007 or Republic Act 9482 after a total of 29 animal bite cases have been reported since January.

At a recent forum, Talla said 12 cases were recorded in January, nine in February, and eight this month. The city extended more than P42,000 in assistance to the victims, she added.

Two adults from Bindoy and from Sta. Catalina towns also died due to rabies in March, provincial veterinarian Dr. Antonio Mutia said.
