Young Lives

StarLife concludes below the two-part set of New Year's wishes made by high school freshmen in Bacolod City. I want to become a good person. I hope that my attitude will change to become good not worse. I hope, too, that my family will be stronger in meeting problems so we become happier. I have lots of wishes for my family because it is most important to me. - Princess Alova

I only have one wish - to joint the staff of our school paper. I want to join to enhance my skills in writing and editing skills which I started learning in the grade school. I am, however, shy to present myself to them. - Benjie Barodi

I wish I can reach the highest mountain the world so that other people will know that even I'm still young and a student, I can reach it. - John Ray Tanquinco

My wish is to have good health and be with my family together always. These are more important to me than having all the treasures in the world. I am so happy when I'm with my family and this happiness is something money can't buy. - Sandy Cabalcar Jr.

I have long wished to change the world - which is filled with selfishness and disrespect. I wish to do good to three other people for them to help three other strangers in their life and we all pass this on to the whole world, three at a time. I may not live forever but I know I can do something to help others. - Daniel Keith Bagayo

Sometimes I think life is so unfair because problems keep coming. That's why this new year, I wish that my family will be free from sadness and hard work and happiness will reign in our life. It will only happen if my mother will not go abroad and work because it's very hard to live without a complete family. I also wish she will decide wisely, because even though she will not work, we can still live convenient and, more important, a happier life. - Alexandra Soledad

There are many I wishes that I want to be granted but the most is just to live happy with my whole family in Cebu because my aunts and cousins are there. I am very comfortable when I am there. I can always imagine the smiles on the faces of every member of my family, especially me, when we are together, living in peace as one big family. - Darlaine Somosot

Do wishes come true? Wishes sometimes fail and sometimes succeed. I do believe they come true. I wish that every Christmas and New Year we will always be together and that this year, my family can face the challenges and trials. I wish that my family ties will last forever. - Dominique Abayon

I pray for a better education so that when I grow up I'll become either a good doctor or nurse so I can pay my parents back for what they have done to me. I wish that our country will have a stronger economy. I wish to be a good person and have a better life. - Sheila Mae Espellogo

Parts of a Whole

High school photojournalists were recently asked in a competition to exercise their creativity by shooting "parts of a whole" subjects. We start this week our two-part series showing images that captured the lenses of these young hobbyists.
