We survived 2006 because You had been with us throughout the year. It is our prayer that just as You had been with us last year, You will also be with us, to guide us and lead us in 2007.

"One thing God has spoken, two things have I heard: that you, O God, are strong, and that you, O Lord, are loving." -Psalm 62:11 Heavenly Father, as we welcome the new year, allow us first to look back and thank you for the mighty things that you had done in 2006. Thank you that You had spared us from the backlash of an angry and groaning planet.

As we saw the destruction brought about by the super typhoons in other provinces, the wild fires and earthquakes in other nations, we realize how kind and merciful and compassionate You had been towards us and our province.

When Mt. Mayon and Mt. Bulusan were spewing ash and lava, You covered the mouth of Kanlaon and commanded it to be quiet. When mudslides covered homes and killed thousands, You allowed merely a flashflood in our City to remind us that rivers and creeks are not garbage dumps nor are they squatting grounds for the homeless.

Thank you that, despite the increase in the prices of goods, Your provisions had been enough. Thank you for Your unfailing love, which had protected us from disease, from temptations, and from all forms of evil. We survived 2006 because

You had been with us throughout the year. It is our prayer that just as You had been with us last year, You will also be with us, to guide us and lead us in 2007.

Teach us Your ways because they are always right and true. Guide our steps that we may walk in paths of righteousness. Gird our hearts with things pure and noble so that our lives will manifest deeds pure and noble. Above all, show Yourself Lord and King over us all for You alone are God Almighty. Receive our thanks and hear our prayer in Jesus' name. Amen.
