Panaad standouts shine

The Negros Panaad Swimming Club amassed 3,729 points to capture top honors in the MassKara Age-Group Swimfest at the Panaad Olympic pool in Bacolod City .

Fielding the most number of swimmers in the competition, the NPSC tankers bested 19 other teams for the overall title in the Oct. 20-21 event.

Zamboanga notched 2,931 points for second place, followed by Iloilo Sea Warriors Swim Club (2,284), Oriental Negros Blue Dolphins (2,181) and Makati Skipjacks (1,235).

Three RP boxers raring
to go for Olympic berths

Filipino light-flyweight Harry Tanamor, flyweight Violito Payla and lightweight Genebert Basadre said they are determined to beat their respective rivals in the round of 16 of the International Amateur Boxing Association World Boxing Championships at the University of Illinois-Chicago Pavillion in Chicago.

Payla meets Rau'shee Wareen of the United States , Tanamor battles Sherali Dostiev of Tajikistan and Basadre tackles Hrachik Javakhyan of Armenia on Oct. 31, Wednesday with the winners advancing to the quarterfinals and earning berths to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

West Negros chessers
dominate Dizon event

Woodpushers from West Negros College grabbed the limelight in the 9 th Raymundo R. Dizon Age Group Chess Tournament at the University of St. La Salle-Integrated School Covered Court in Bacolod City from Oct. 20-21.

WNC players dominated the high school boys and girls and college men and women categories of the two-day event.

Douglas Perez topped the event in boys' high school with 5.5 points, relegating Don Agustin Divinagracia of Fellowship Baptist School-Binalbagan (5 pts.) to second place and Jan Hermo Baron of Western Visayas College of Science and Technology ( Iloilo ) ( 5 pts.) to third place.
