COUNTING ON IN 2 VILLAGES
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections held Monday in Dumaguete City was orderly and peaceful, the Commission on Elections said yesterday.

Comelec officer Carmencita Cañares said that, except for the perennial problem of some whose names were not found in the voters' list, no other untoward incidents were reported to them.

She said that, when checked with their computer data, the names were found in the list of registered voters posted in every precinct, and some complainants just had no patience in locating them.

Cañares also said that the local Comelec office had received reports of massive vote-buying in some barangays, at P300 per person.

Indirect vote-buying was also reported through distribution of NFA rice and fish. A candidate was also reported to have given match boxes with a P20 bill i also reported to have given match boxes with a P20 bill inside, aside from lighters, and other similar items.

Some candidates also used the issue on unliquidated funds of incumbent officials, while an over-aged bet for SK in Brgy Looc was also reported.

Cañares, however, said all these allegations were not accompanied with formal complaints.

Meanwhile, in Poblacion 4, Maria del Pilar Calumpang and Fe Dagoy tied with 53 votes each, and also tied for the seventh slot for kagawad. Calumpang won in the drawing of lots, the Comelec said.*JG
