IN LARENA
Tighten security, police
urge banks, pawnshops
BY RENE GENOVE

The Larena police station in Siquijor province has urged banks and pawnshops to strengthen their own security, because of the string of robberies in the region.

Larena chief of police, Senior Inspector Enrique Limbaga Belciņa, stressed the need for firearm proficiency training among policemen and security guards as directed by Supt. Lyndon Lawas, PRO-7 chief of the Firearms, Explosives, Security Agency and Guards Supervisory Sector. Belciņa said it is imperative to provide specialized training for security guards as they play a critical role in thwarting robberies.

At least 19 security guards from Larena town took a refresher course recently, in coordination with the local government and the Siquijor Pistol and Rifle Association at the Cang-allas Shooting Range.

Belciņa said their office has coordinated with security agencies for replacement of defective firearms found during the training.

He added that focus has been given on preemptive measures versus terrorism while strengthening intelligence monitoring through the barangay intelligence network.

Belciņa also called on the public to help the police prevent crimes by reporting to them suspicious-looking people.*RG
