| Three female Grade Six pupils from La Carlota City were allegedly possessed by spirits while staying at the in Lag-asan Elementary School in Bago City where the 4 th District Area Athletic and Cultural Meet was held.
They were staying at the Grade One rooms of the school surrounded by trees and located beside the Lagunday Funeral Parlor.
On Nov. 16, the girls fainted inside their billeting rooms on Nov. 16 and were brought to Bago District Hospital by sports supervisor Mitus Hiponia, a report from DYEZ Aksyon Radyo said.
Priests of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente – Frs. Loreto Tomo, Ramir Odtohan, Reynaldo Anava and Lemuel Denaga -- were called in to pray for the girls and to conduct a rite of exorcism, the report said.
During the exorcism rites, the priests called on the spirit possessing the girls to make herself known and in a strange voice, on the girls said that her name is “Razel” and she was victimized by bad men.
The priest then told “Razel” to get out of the body of the girl and asked her not to let her victim suffer.
After almost an hour, the girls gained consciousness but were not aware of what happened to them.
One of them said she recalled going to the comfort room at 7:30 p.m. and saw a black-skinned girl inside. She was so frightened that she screamed and ran outside.
The second girl said that when she heard the screams, she ran outside of their room to check what was going on and she also saw the a black-skinned girl in the hallway. As she stared at the black-skinned girl, the second victim said she began to feel dizzy and found it difficult to breath.
“It was as if somebody was choking me,” the second girl said during the radio interview.
The third victim, on the other hand, said that when she heard about the commotion, she went inside the room and saw a fair-skinned girl sitting beside the first victim. That was the last thing she remembered, the girl said.
When the three girls were brought back to their billeting room in Lag-asan Elementary School from the hospital but around 3 a.m. of Nov. 17 they felt bad again.
Awakened by the noise from the other room, 10 boys who were players of the elementary football team tried to go inside the girls' room but were knocked down by a “very cold and very strong wind”, Hiponia said in the interview.
Around 7:30 a.m. of Nov. 17, for the third time, the three girls said they felt bad again and one of them was brought to the hospital due to fever.
Tomo said the signs of a possible possession were similar to what he experienced in Ilog several years ago but he suspects that what happened to the girls was due to their physical and mental exhaustion as they were all athletes who competed that day in the district meet.
Dr. Antonio Gauzon said that the three girls could have experienced lack of potassium. The best remedy for the girls' condition he said was to make them eat bananas or drink pineapple juice to replenish potassium loss.*NAB
