| 6 Bacoleños nabbed
for illegal gambling Six persons were arrested for allegedly engaging in illegal gambling at a sidewalk in Bacolod City yesterday, the police said.
Jaime de la Torre, 49, of Purok Tilapia; Dominador Amprayohan of Purok Bolinao; and Ronnie Ragay, 37, of Purok Kamunsil, all in Brgy. 3, in Bacolod were arrested by PO2's Arthur Marijana and Ronilo Molato of Police Station 2 at about 11:40 a.m. yesterday, police records showed.
Also arrested were Alfredo Baccaro, 32, of Purok Makawiwili, Brgy. Banago; Oliver Javier, 29, of Purok Lubi, Brgy. 3; and Danny Villa, 57, of Sharina Heights , Brgy. Taculing, all in Bacolod City , police reports added.
The six were allegedly caught playing “kara y krus”, a coin game prohibited under Presidential Decree 1602, police records show.
PO1 Salvador Dupit said the six have been among the trisikad drivers obstructing the sidewalk at 22nd-Lacson streets despite being repeatedly reprimanded.
“We have received a number of complaints from pedestrians about them blocking the way,” Dupit said.
The drivers, however, said that they were just killing time while waiting for passengers in the area.
Recovered from the six were P150 in bet money and three one-peso coins used as cue pieces, police records showed.
Charges now being prepared against the six, the police said.
Meanwhile, a man was apprehended by the police for possession of an 18-inch bladed weapon in Purok Bangrus, Brgy. 1, Bacoldo City at about 7 p.m. Tuesday, police reports said.
Police Station 2 officers had earlier received a call that Edgar Melonio, 45, was beating his wife, Ma. Teresa, before he was arrested while carrying the weapon outside their house in Purok Bangrus.*PP

Water pipe
thieves warned
The Bacolod City Water District has issued a warning to the public that criminal charges will be filed against those who steal its decommissioned steel pipes in Brgy. Alangilan, Bacolod City , a press release from BACIWA said yesterday.
It also said that selling these pipes to junkshops, second-hand shops, construction firms and other entities constitutes a violation of Presidential Decree 1612, or the Anti-Fencing Law of 1979.
BACIWA also urged the public to report to authorities those who steal the pipes, or contact its office at Tel. Nos. 433-4601, 433-4602, 708-0233 or 433-2141, the press release said.
Meanwhile, the water firm announced that beginning Monday, it will strictly implement its disconnection policy.
Consumers who have overdue accounts are subject to disconnection anytime without further notice or warning, the press release added.*
