Dongail arrested at mall in Manila

Former Chief Inspector Clarence Dongail was arrested by law enforcers in Metro Manila yesterday, four years after he and 21 others were tagged in the kidnap-slay of Eleuterio Salabas and his two companions.

National Bureau of Investigation Bacolod chief Mamerto Cortez said that Dongail was apprehended by members of the bureau's Special Task Force while strolling alone at Robinson's in Ermita around noon yesterday.

Dongail, who was wearing a striped shirt and denim pants, was unarmed and did not resist arrest, Cortez told the DAILY STAR by telephone last night. moremoremore

ILOILO CITY—-The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) has finally filed administrative cases against four doctors and three hospitals in Western Visayas in relation to irregularities in insurance claims for cataract surgeries.

Lawyer Jay Villegas, manager of the PhilHealth's Fact-Finding and Administrative Investigation Department, said in a telephone interview that the doctors and hospitals are facing a total of 34 counts of violating Republic Act 7875 (National Health Insurance Act) before the PhilHealth's prosecution department. moremoremore

Negros Occidental and Bacolod City officials yesterday condemned the bombing at the Batasan Complex in Quezon City Tuesday night, amid stepped up police security and calls for prayers.

“We should pray for those who have perished and those who were injured,” Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra said.

Gov. Joseph Marañon ordered stepped up security in Negros Occidental and at the provincial Capitol in Bacolod City following the bombing that left Rep. Wahab Akbar (Basilan) and three civilians dead, and nine others, including Rep. Pryde Henry Teves (Neg. Or., 3 rd district) and Gabriela party-list Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan injured. moremoremore
