SEAG-bound athletics squad

Eight Negrenses are part of the Philippine athletics team bound for the Southeast Asian Games in Ratchasima Nakhon , Thailand .

They will be led by SEA Games hammer throw king Arniel Ferrera of Cauayan, who is gunning for his third gold medal in the biennial meet, after winning in the Vietnam and Manila editions.

The other Negrenses in the team are Jerro Perater (men's hammer throw), Rosie Villarito (women's javelin) and Loralie Amahit (women's hammer throw) of Binalbagan, Himamaylan's Julius Sermona (5k and 10k races), Escalante's Arnold Villarube (decathlon and 4x100), Joebert Delicano of Victorias (long jump and triple jump) and La Carlota's Sheena Atilano (110-m hurdles), Ferrera said.

Corteza makes

Lee Vann Corteza of the Negros Billiard Stable followed stablemate Ramil Gallego in the round of 64 of the 2007 Philippine World Pool Championships at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City .

Corteza, who hails from Davao City , defeated American Jeremy Jones, 9-4, Sunday night to advance to the knockout phase. The NBS player earlier lost to Serbia 's Goran Mladenovic, 7-9.

Bacolod-born Gallego posted two convincing victories to make the round of 64 in the company of six other Filipinos.

QPP, Lopue's cagers
firm up cagefest lead

Queen of Peace Parish and Lopue's Batch 1999-2000 solidified their hold on the top spots in their respective brackets with contrasting victories over the weekend in the SJI Alumni Basketball Tournament at the SJI Activity Center in Bacolod City.

Buoyed by Fr. Noly Que's 37 points, QPP clobbered Ongsingco's 03-04, 109-85. Que hit five triples and was complemented by Arvin Gustilo's 15 markers.

Ongsingco's was led by Mark Vasquez and Michael Sian with 20 and 19 points, respectively.
