Adobo challenge,
demo set at mall

The Negros Cultural Foundation will showcase crafts and organic food at the “First National Adobo Challenge” on Nov. 9-10, and will feature professional chefs on Nov. 11, at the Northwing Event Center of SM City in Bacolod , a press release from organizers said.

To highlight the events is the adobo cooking competition for students and amateur cooks, who will be submitting their original entries at the Balay Negrense Museum or the Don Victor Gaston Ancestral House in Silay City , Negros Occidental.

After nine years of organizing the adobo competition locally as part of the Al Cinco de Noviembre celebration, NCF president and chair of the adobo festival, Lyn Gamboa, said it is now worth sharing with the rest of the country in a national exhibition for chefs to create adobo recipes with traditionally gourmet values, the press release said.

Professional chefs such as Rodrigo Reloj, Pancho Bringas, JP Anglo and Patricia Locsin will also share their expertise while freelance writer on Culinary Anthropology Pia Lim Castillo, culinary magazine publisher Nancy Reyes Luman, and WWF Philippines vice chairman Lory Tan will give talks on the heritage of adobo.

Other activities include a fund-raiser opening cocktails and dinner, street and lounge parties, food trips around towns in Negros , heritage tour and performances.

These activities are supported by the Silay and Negros Occidental governments, Department of Tourism, SM City Bacolod, office of Rep. Jose Carlos Lacson (3 rd district, Neg.Occ.), and other corporate sponsors, the press release added.*
