The Philippine Ports Authority will construct a P100-million seaport facility in Barangay Capiñahan, Bais City , Negros Oriental, early next year, Mayor Hector Villanueva said yesterday.

He said the project has been proposed several years ago because of the need of Bais for a roll-on, roll-off facility. The city is one of the gateways in the northern part of Negros in crossing Tañon Strait to Cebu .

Villanueva said the project had been approved by the PPA national office in Manila , after it conducted an on-site survey of the area recently.

Jinggoy thankful for
Erap case ‘ closure'

The whole Estrada family is very thankful for the "closure" of the case against former president Joseph Estrada, Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada yesterday said as he expressed gratitude to all who helped in securing freedom for his father.

In a privilege speech at the resumption of the Senate session yesterday, titled, "President Estrada and the Agenda of Good Governance and Reform," the young Estrada said, "It is of no moment now whether there are those who opposed or supported the grant of pardon.”

He said what is important is that there is closure of this case. “Equally important is that he is now free, reunited with his loved ones, especially with his ailing mother, my grandmother, and, prepared to resume the pro-poor programs he left behind." .

Pinoy Media Congress
to open tomorrow at SU

The 2007 Pinoy Media Congress dubbed “3-in-1 in Silliman” which opens tomorrow and will end Friday is expected to draw about 300 media top-brass, communication educators and mass communication students in Silliman University, Dumaguete City, a press release from SU said yesterday.

The event on this year's theme “Media Policy Regulation, Ethics and Practice” is organized by the Philippine Association of Communication Educators and co-sponsored by ABS-CBN Corp.

It is aimed to continue as a venue for interaction among media experts, teachers and students of communication towards the improvement of media content, practice and policy.
