La Carlota rescuers
find teacher's body

BY PATRICK PANGILINAN

The body of a former teacher who was reported missing when she was swept away by strong river currents in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental Thursday, was found by local divers Saturday, the city's rescue team said yesterday.

Two residents found the body of Erlinda Magubilin around 700 meters from where she was swept away by strong currents at a river in Brgy. RSB, La Carlota City two days after she was reported missing, Enrique Toda of the La Carlota City 1911 Disaster and Rescue Team, said.

Lonymar Magsipoc and Paul Luguan found Magubilin's body under bamboo poles and other debris at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Toda said.

Magsipoc and Luguan have been helping them scour the river even without diving equipment since the 64-year-old Magubilin was reported missing, he added.

Magubilin was crossing the river with her companions when she was swept away by the currents Thursday, Toda said.

Earlier efforts to find the former teacher were also hampered by strong currents, he added.*PP
