| Marine scientists calling ILOILO CITY – Marine scientists have called for revisions in the country's mining laws to prevent further degradation of the coastal resources and conserve marine biodiversity. In a resolution issued at the conclusion of the 9th National Symposium in Marine Science held on October 24-26 in Iloilo City, the marine scientists also called for stricter monitoring of mining projects. The resolution, signed by at least 120 marine scientists, said that coastal areas are facing threats because of increased sedimentation due to strip mining, mine tailings and acidification due to acid mine drainage. | ||||||||||||||||
