BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Forty-eight passengers and nine crew members of a fast ferry craft were rescued after the vessel they were on board ran aground off the coast of Sipaway Island in San Carlos City , Negros Occidental, Thursday.

Supt. Harold Tuzon, San Carlos police chief, said the ferry boat, which came from Toledo , Cebu, was on its way to San Carlos City , when it got stuck in a shallow area, about a mile north of Sipaway island.

Tuzon said no one was injured or missing, as the 48 passengers and nine crew members of the vessel, including ferry boat Capt. Julieto Cortego, were all accounted for.

The stranded passengers and crew members were fetched by another fast ferry craft. The rescue operations had been organized by a combined team of the Philippine Coast Guard, policemen and Bantay Dagat volunteers.*GPB
