Search continues
for former teacher
BY PATRICK PANGILINAN

Rescuers are still searching for a 64-year-old retired teacher more than a day after strong river currents swept her away in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, the city's rescue team said yesterday.

Enrique Toda, head of the La Carlota City 1911 Disaster and Rescue Team Paramedics department, said they will resume their search for Erlinda Magubilin at a river at Brgy. RSB, La Carlota, today after efforts to locate her were hampered by strong currents Thursday and yesterday.

Reports they received was that Magubilin, a former teacher, and her companions were crossing the river when the strong currents swept her away, Toda said.

The strong currents may have been caused by rains in some parts of La Carlota, he added.

Toda said they started scouring the river at about 4 p.m. Thursday along with the Pontevedra rescue unit, after the La Carlota City police informed them of the incident and continued to search for the woman until yesterday even without diving equipment.*PP
