22 brg'y
captains reelected
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

There are 22 re-elected barangay captains in Bacolod City , 39 new ones and two are returning village chiefs.

The two are Restituto Abaring Sr. of Brgy. Bata and Leonardo Suansing Sr. of Brgy. Mandalagan.

Meanwhile, the Barangay Board of Canvassers are expected to resolve ties involving Sangguniang Kabataan and barangay candidates this weekend.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia Wednesday congratulated the winning barangay and SK candidates and said he hopes they will consider what is good for the city and not just think about their barangays.

He hopes they will be conscious that this election is not a popularity contest but a matter of commitment, he said. It is a mandate from the people and is something sacred, Leonardia added.

"We have to move beyond parochial mentality and think in terms of our city and not just in terms of our purok or barangay," he said.

Leonardia said he believes there are friendlier barangay captains and kagawads now, which appears consistent with the results of the May elections where the majority of the councilors who won were pro-administration.

City Hall data shows that those who got the majority votes for barangay captain in the recent barangay election are Sammy Gaitan for Brgy. 1, Richard Barber - Brgy. 2, Brigid Stella Maris Tan - Brgy. 3, Antonio Ongsigco - Brgy. 4, Felix Jardinico - Brgy. 5, Remus Dely Sr. - Brgy. 6, Bernabe Sibug - Brgy. 7;
