FOR RUNNING AMOK
Cops gun down
Ilog sexagenarian

A sexagenarian who reportedly ran amok by shooting his neighbor and law enforcers, was gunned down by policemen on Wednesday in Brgy. Dancalan, Ilog, Negros Occidental.

Senior Inspector Gabriel Gutierrez, Ilog police chief, yesterday identified the fatality as Dominador Paquit, a 65-year-old widower and resident of Brgy. Dancalan, Ilog.

Gutierrez said Paquit who was armed with a .38 caliber revolver, shot Evelyn Nifras without any provocation.

Police investigations show that Nifras threatened Paquit whom she accused of molesting her mentally-deranged daughter, of reporting the incident to the Ilog Police Station.

Angered by the accusations, Gutierrez said Paquit stormed into house of Nifras and shot her.

PO3 Hifflet Gestopa, a neighbor of the victim and suspect, and a team of Ilog policemen led by SPO3 Noel Joquino who responded to the call for assistance, were also fired upon by Paquit, police investigations also showed.

This prompted Ilog policemen to return fire, hitting Paquit on his right hand, with the bullet exiting into his waist.

The gunman and his victim were immediately brought by Ilog policemen to the Kabankalan District Hospital for treatment of their gunshot wounds.

Gutierrez said Paquit died at the Kabankalan District Hospital , while Nifras who was hit in the stomach, was transferred to a government-owned hospital in Bacolod City .

A .38 caliber revolver, five empty shells and one live ammunition were recovered by Ilog policemen from Paquit.*GPB
