| Top Filipino food manufacturers for locally processed agricultural products generated $36.62 million in sales during the recent international food fair in Germany from its only $24 million earnings in the same event two years ago, the Department of Agriculture said in a report.
Earnings of Philippine exhibitors in this year's Anuga 2007 held in Koln Messe, Germany is 83 percent higher than the $20 million target revenue.
The country's participation in the Anuga food trade show is among the activities being carried out by the DA Export Development Team to help boost Philippine agri-exports.
Undersecretary for Special Concerns Berna Romulo-Puyat, said the best sellers among Philippine agri-commodities were desiccated coconuts, dried mangos, banana chips and canned tuna.
In 2006, the Top 10 Philippine agricultural exports to Germany were skipjack and Atlantic bonito, tuna, desiccated coconut, coconut oil, banana chips, carrageenan, abaca pulp, coconut fatty acids, coconut methyl ester and frozen shrimps and prawns.
Total value of Philippine agriculture exports to Germany last year reached $64 million.
Fourteen of the Philippines ' top food manufacturers represented the country in the event, which was attended by around 163,000 visitors from 175 countries.
The Philippine food companies include B-G Fruits and Nuts Manufacturing Corp., El Coco Trading Corp., Celebes Coconut Corporation, KSK Food Products, Primex Coco Products and See's International Food Manufacturing, which export processed fruits such as banana chips, desiccated coconut, bottled fruits preserves, fried corn snacks and dried mangos, dried pineapple and papaya.
Others are Oceanic Exports Manila Inc., Pacific Isles International Trading Corp, Philippine Grocers Food Exports, Inc., Florence Foods Corporation that manufacture sauces, condiments, biscuits, juices and specialty foods.
Canned products like tuna and sardines were sold by Alliance Tuna International and Mega Fishing Corp, while two new companies, Amley Food Corporation and Fortress Food Manufacturing Corporation, promoted dried fruits and canned vegetable products, sauces and goat meat.*
