Yap pledges to finish
Escalante projects
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Mayor-elect Melecio Yap yesterday said he will carry on and complete projects started by outgoing mayor Santiago Barcelona in Escalante City, including the ongoing construction of a 25-bed hospital and housing projects for the poor.

Yap (Lakas CMD) said he is optimistic that he and Barcelona (NPC), who won as vice mayor in the May 14, polls will be able to work harmoniously in the next three years for the good of the people of Escalante.

Barcelona's wife, Alice, lost to Yap in her bid for mayor of Escalante.

Yap paid a courtesy call on Gov. Joseph Maraņon at the Capitol in Bacolod City yesterday to bare his commitment to continue the ongoing projects in Escalante City and to seek the governor's support.

He noted that the provincial government had committed a P40 million counterpart to the P80 million Escalante hospital in Barangay Hacienda Fe, P30 million of which had already been released.

"The governor assured me of continued support for the project," he said. The people of Escalante can be assured that I will work to complete all of the projects started by the previous administration, Yap, a former councilor and vice mayor of the city said.*CPG
