Respect our flag,
Filipinos urged

The Department of Tourism is urging Filipinos to give proper respect to the Philippine flag in line with the Flag Day celebration in the country last Monday, a DoT-Negros Occidental press release said.

The flag should be displayed on national holidays and on historic and special occasions; if flown from a flagpole, should have its blue stripe on top during time of peace and the red stripe on top in time of war; when displayed in a manner other than by being flown from a staff, it should be displayed flat, whether indoors or outdoors, the press release said. The flag, if placed in a hanging or vertical position, the blue stripe should be on your left side in time of peace. On the other hand, during time of war, the red stripe should appear on the left when facing the flag, and none of its part should touch the ground.

The flag should be hoisted briskly and lowered slowly; it should never be used as a decoration or as a costume; and a worn-out national flag should not be thrown away or used as a rag. It should be reverently burned to avoid its misuse or desecration, the press release added.*
