DOST launches
educational software

The Department of Science and Technology and the Colegio de Santa Catalina de Alexandria launched Monday the DOST Educational Software and IT products, at COSCA Hall, in Dumaguete City.

It was presented by a team from the Advance Science and Technology Institute, a branch of the DOST handling software products.

Around 50 participants from the Department of Education, IT developers and private entities interested in software products were present.

COSCA president Rev.Fr. Enrique Balongag said the event gives an opportunity for their students to avail of the latest innovations in information technology.

ASTI representative Geraldine Lugod said the software products are developed by the ASTI of DOST named Bayanihan Linux, which provides software programs like instructional materials for students and teachers in Science and Math.

Lugod added they have developed Science and Math lessons specially designed for Grades 1 to 4 and Grades 1 to 6, and also made advance Science and Math lessons for high school students.

She said the program aims to give the public schools the opportunity to bridge the digital gap between private and public schools. Lugod said the DOST is willing to accept old computer sets for schools.*MA
