Teacher deployment manageable
BY RENE GENOVE

The Department of Education in Oriental Negros reported that teacher deployment in public secondary schools in the province is manageable, while that in public elementary schools is within the national mean ratio.

Of the total public secondary schools under DepEd-NegOr, some 36.11 percent are recorded to have severe teacher shortage. Those classified as within manageable ratio account for 25 percent; moderate teacher shortage, 11 percent; and excessive surplus teacher provision and generous teacher provision each with 8.3 percent. For public elementary schools, majority fall under the national mean ratio bracket while schools with severe teacher shortage only account for 9.73 percent.

There are a total of 1,048 public secondary school teachers and 3,761 public elementary school teachers.

DepEd had earlier set the target of lowering the ratio of classroom shortage in the country to 1:45 (one classroom per 45 students) and 1:30 (one classroom per 30 students) by year 2010.*RG
