100 exhibitors
join OTOP fair

More than 100 exhibitors participated in the 2nd Visayas One-Town-One-Product Fair in Boracay island held May 23 to 27.

Department of Trade and Industry official Diosdado Cadena said the Visayan-wide activity was a success and was boosted by the presence of Presidential Management Staff Director General Cerge Remonde and Tourism Undersecretary Oscar Palabyab.

The participating local government units promoted their flagship products such as food items, souvenirs and novelty items to both foreign and domestic tourists.

Cadena said that through the OTOP fair, tourists in Boracay, including businessmen, were introduced to local products from the Visayas.

The Western Visayas provinces displayed their famous hand weavings, fabrics, food delicacies, muscovado sugar and fruits such as sweet mangoes. Cadena said the OTOP Fair in Boracay became a "selling fair" for the tourists who flocked to the product displays. The 1st OTOP Visayas Fair was held in SM Cebu City where various flagship products of three Visayan regions were also exhibited.*NLG
