| Noted pianist from Bacolod Pancho Uytiepo said during
the last meeting of the Lopez Jaena clan organizers at the Pearl Manor along North
Drive, in Bacolod City that he will play as his piece de resistance the Graciano
Lopez Jaena Rhapsody. Violeta Bunol and Josie Mascunanan
reportedly thrilled by Uytiepo's willingness to display once more his talents
to clan members. Uytiepo also asked Mary Ann Espina, daughter of journalist Rolly
Espina to interpret compositions on the keyboard. Among those
he mentioned were Bacolod na Karon and Bougainvella. "I am not getting any younger.
I'm already in early eighties and I want to be assured that these compositions
will not be relegated to the dustbin after I die," Uytiepo said he told Mary Ann
Espina who promised that she would sing the lyrics of his compositions.
Uytiepo will be the main offering of the Clan during their May 26 reunion at the
Sta. Teresita Academy of Silay City. Antique Governor Sally
Zaldivar-Perez, chairperson of the Western Visayas Historical and Cultural council
and of the Regional Development Council has been invited as guest speaker.
Uytiepo may also play the Graciano Lopez Jaena composition of lawyer Rex Salvilla,
the Iloilo genius who is also a composer, a band master choir conductor, a lawyer,
a military man, and a mathematician who has written several compositions, the
most foremost works being masses and religious hymns. About
250 clan members are expected to attend the May 26 reunion.*RLE back

Nutrition for cancer patients talk set
The special nutrition needs of cancer patients and issues related to their healthy
eating habits will be the main topic of a talk on Nutrition for Cancer Patients
at 3 p.m. Saturday, at the second floor of the Pharmacy Building of Dr. Pablo
O. Torre Memorial Hospital, in Bacolod City, a press release from event organizers
said. Intended primarily for cancer patients, their families
and caregivers, the talk will guide the audience on proper food choices for those
who have been diagnosed with cancer. It is part of a Lecture Series of the Riverside
Wellness Clubs. The press release also said that modern medicine research has
established that diet is an important part of cancer treatment, and good eating
habits before, during and after treatment can help the patient feel better and

PNP launches TV program
The Philippine National Police in Bacolod recently launched the only police television
program in Western Visayas called "Tsip" or "Talakayan sa Isyung Pulis." over
F-Channel 13, a press release from the Philippine Information Agency said.
Bacolod police director Ronilo Quebrar said the program is aired every Saturday
from 10 to 11 a.m., and is anchored by S/Insp. Carmencita Saliba. "Tsip" aims
to inform the people of the programs and activities of the BCPO through television,
the press release said. The TV show complements the existing
radio program "Police Files" aired over DYEZ, Aksyon Radyo, hosted by Erik Magbanua
Sr., every Sunday from 8:15 to 9 a.m. and chiefs of the various sections and departments
of the Bacolod PNP are given the chance to discuss their roles, obligations and
functions and how they can join hands with the community in solving matters related
to the city's peace and order, the press release said.* back

PAG-ASA
accepts scholars
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration
is now accepting scholars for Master of Science and Doctorate degrees in Meteorology,
a Philippine Information Agency press release said. PAG-ASA
Director Martin Rellin said this program is a bid to increase the science and
technology manpower in the said field. The bureau will accept five scholars from
PAG-ASA and five non-PAG-ASA scholars including those interested from other countries.
The scholarship program is a joint project of the United Nations' World Meteorological
Organization and the University of the Philippines. President
Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, through the Department of Science and Technology - Science
Education Institute gave a total P100 million budget for the graduate school programs
which Rellin hopes that once the share of the bureau is released, more scholars
will be admitted into the program, the press release said.
Meanwhile, the DOST-SEI is also accepting scholars for Accelerated Science and
Technology Human Resource Development Program AY 2007-2008.
Scholarship is open to qualified individuals who would like to pursue Masterof
Science degrees in priority areas of science and technology.
