Macias mum on
Josy-Paras political tiff
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Governor-elect of Oriental Negros Emilio Macias II said he would not get involved in the controversy between First District Congressional candidate Jocelyn Limkaichong and incumbent Rep. Jing Paras.

Macias said his support for Olive Paras - wife of Jing - under the Team Unity ticket, was only during the May 14 elections.

He added that whatever feelings he might have for both candidates will not affect the outcome of the case, referring to Limkaichong's disqualification, on allegations - that she is not a Filipino citizen. Macias said that, although he is not an expert in jurisprudence and in legal matters, the rightful thing to do is wait for the decision from the Commission on Election en banc, which has jurisdiction over the case.

On May 17, the Comelec second division disqualified Limkaichong and suspended her proclamation as representative of the first district.

The lawyers of Limkaichong have filed a motion for reconsideration asking the COMELEC to reverse its decision and lift the suspension of the proclamation.

Meanwhile, Macias vowed to religiously work with whoever will win as representative of the first district.

The governor-elect admitted that he is saddened by the left and right disqualifications and election protests filed in the province.

He said politics should be conducted on May 14 only, and the rest of the time should be spent working with programs and projects for the Negrense people.

He said he hopes that all of the controversies will end and the losing candidates will support those who won and were elected by the people.*MA
