Don't retaliate, solon
tells NegOr politicians
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE & MARICAR ARANAS

Outgoing Rep. Herminio Teves told mayors, vice mayors and councilors who won under his tutelage he doesn't want to hear of retaliation moves against their constituents.

He said he did not like the idea of politicians cutting water and electrical connections of non-supporters and running after them, like in the case of Zamboanguita and Bacong towns. Teves said that he only has one political casualty in the 3rd district, the vice mayoralty candidate in Sta. Catalina, but all the rest, won.

In the first district, even without a mayor supporting her, Jocelyn Limkaichong won as congressman with Teves behind her and orchestrating the campaign.

In Dumaguete, Teves has only two casualties, his grandson, Dandan Teves Leon (12th place) who run for councilor and his brother-in-law, George Villamor (11th place).

Teves disclosed plans to file a petition before the Comelec for Dandan Teves Leon because a number of votes for Dandan were credited and tallied to another candidate also with the surname Teves, from the other party.

Meanwhile, 3rd District Congressman-elect Henry Pryde Teves said he intends to prioritize the livelihood programs for the people of the district and to devise a milk-feeding program for home consumption using Anglonobian goats, which suits our climate.

He said goats are easier to breed and their milk is nutritious.

The younger Teves said he will try a project first in his district, before replicating it on a nationwide scale.

He was recently proclaimed by acting provincial election supervisor Eddie Aba as the duly-elected congressman of the third district. He gathered a total of 71,540 votes while Edgar Teves had only 29,992 votes.

The younger Teves said also that his agenda in Congress would be re-endorsing his grandfather's free noon meal feeding program, which was denied by the Senate. He hopes to allocate P27 million of his pork barrel for the program.

The free noon meal-feeding program is being implemented in all elementary schools in the third district of Oriental Negros. He said it will resume with the opening of classes this June.

Teves said he will try to ask friends in congress, including the newly elected congressman of the Second District, outgoing Oriental Negros Gov. George Arnaiz, to support the program.*JG/MA
