The
Commission on Elections in Bacolod City proclaimed the winning candidates at the
BAYS Center Saturday afternoon amidst tight security and cheers and boos from
both opposing camps.
Lakas-CMD bet Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella was proclaimed ahead of Mayor Evelio
Leonardia of the Nationalist People's Coalition and members of the Sangguniang
Panlungsod, which was dominated by the NPC party.
Puentevella registered 75,918 votes over his rival Renecito Novero (NPC) who had
74,897, while Leonardia (NPC) had 109,789 votes over Luzviminda Valdez (Lakas-CMD)
who had 54,377.

Julio "Jules" Ledesma IV (Lakas CMD) yesterday said his highest priority for the
first district of Negros Occidental is the completion of the San Carlos City airport
that will cost another P250 to P300 million.
The former first district three-term solon arrived at the Kadiwa Center in Bacolod
City with his wife, movie star Assunta de Rossi, for his proclamation Saturday
morning. His wife, Assunta,
said "My main focus right now is having babies, for me it's long overdue…I am
not even thinking about working as of now, I really want to get pregnant." In
2004, Ledesma took a break from politics after he married the movie star.    |
Iggy's House target: review of CARP law BY

Ignacio "Iggy" Arroyo Jr. (KAMPI/Lakas CMD/UNA), who has been re-elected back
into office, yesterday said his priority in the House of Representatives will
be a review of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Law.
The law expires next year and we want to see a better program put in place to
uplift the lives of the people it is supposed to help, he said.
Arroyo was proclaimed the winning congressman of the fifth district in absentia
by Provincial Elections Officer Jessie Suarez Saturday after he won with 76,143
votes against Apolinario Lozada (LP/PDP-Laban) who garnered 47,499 votes.
