Paras seeking to stop
Josy's proclamation
BY ALEX PAL

Congressional candidate Olive Paras (Kampi) of the first district of Oriental Negros has sought to stop the proclamation of leading candidate Jocelyn Sy-Limkaichong (Lakas CMD).

Paras, the wife of incumbent Rep. Jacinto Paras and sister-in-law of fellow candidate Jerome Paras (Nacionalista), filed her Very Urgent Motion for Leave and to Suspend the Proclamation of Jocelyn Sy- Limkaichong as the winning congressional candidate of the 1st District of Negros Oriental, at the Provincial Commission on Elections Office, Tuesday night.

The motion was filed even before the Provincial Board of Canvassers could begin canvassing the votes in the province.

Complete unofficial results from the towns of La Libertad, Manjuyod and Bindoy, as tabulated by the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting, showed Limkaichong with 23,912 votes, while Olive Paras obtained 8,892 votes and Jerome Paras, 11,964.

In her motion, Paras admitted that Limkaichong appears to be the winning candidate in the election, as manifested by the results from the municipalities forming part of the first congressional district.

But she said that there is a pending disqualification case against Limkaichong, which questions her citizenship.

The disqualification case, filed by a Renald Vilando, alleged that Limkaichong is not a natural-born Filipino citizen, and that, her father had not yet completed the requirements for Filipino citizenship at the time of her birth.*AP
