Illegal poll
materials removed
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The Commission on Elections in Bacolod City conducted "Operation Baklas" early yesterday morning by removing illegally posted campaign materials in the city.

Bacolod Comelec registrar Mavil Majarucon said they started the operation 1 a.m. yesterday with the assistance of the police.

She said the number one violator are the people of senatorial candidates Mike Defensor, Miguel Zubiri, Chavit Singson and Prospero Pichay, who are all running under the administration ticket - Team Unity. Other violators are those of senatorial candidates Tessie Oreta and Loren Legarda, she said, adding that she has already called their attention.

Majarucon said they are trying to consider that the people posting the campaign materials are just paid workers. "When we talked to them they have no knowledge that they have violated some laws since they did not get proper orientation from their candidates," she said.

They will make a report on the campaign materials they have confiscated yesterday and submit it to the Comelec Manila for proper action, Majarucon said.

Provincial Comelec head Jessie Suarez said they will continue to comply with the Comelec resolution of tearing down campaign materials that are illegally posted.

He said "We will see who will get tired and we will do this regularly province wide."*CGS
