Millgate prices of domestic or "B" sugar dropped
slightly this week, although prices still remain above the P1,000
per 50-Lkg level.
Data provided by the Sugar Masterplan Foundation
show that prices this week range from P1,050.05 to P1,110 per
Lkg while last week, from P1,043.76 to P1,120 per Lkg.
Bais, which disposed its stocks last week at the
lowest price of P1,043.76, did not take part in this week's bidding,
but Passi I, Passi II and Pilar are back this week. For the current
week, Binalbagan-Isabela Sugar Company sold its stocks at P1,064.89
(high) and P1,061 (low), for a total volume of 14,445.22 Lkgs.;

to hold planting test
of sweet sorghum in WV
The Department of Agriculture will conduct planting
trials in Capiz to find out the local adaptability of the sweet
sorghum, a source of high-octane fuel that can be blended with
gasoline to produce bioethanol, the Philippine Information Agency
reported
The tests will be conducted at DA's seven-hectare
Regional Integrated Agricultural Research Center situated between
Panitan and Sigma towns.
Henry Tumlos, DA-RIARC Capiz chief, said the trials
for five varieties of sweet sorghum will start during the wet
season this season this year, the PIA said.

BIR tells Negrenses
to pay taxes early
The Bureau of Internal Revenue has extended the
deadline for the filing of income tax to April 16, Monday, since
April 15 falls on a Sunday.
BIR is urging Negrense taxpayers to avoid the long
lines and unnecessary hassles by paying their taxes early although
the agency has also set up alternative venues where they can file
their ITRs at their convenience.
BIR said it has coordinated with its Authorized
Agents Banks in Negros Occidental for an extension of their banking
hours from 3 p.m. up to 5 p.m. on April 1 to 16 or only during
the filing season.
