P47M Isabela hospital
now open to patients
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The P47.8-million Ignacio Lacson Arroyo Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Isabela, Negros Occidental is now ready for use, Rep. Ignacio Arroyo Jr. (Neg. Occ., 5th district) said yesterday, adding that P15 million worth of hospital equipment is also expected to arrive soon.

The 50-bed hospital, which will cater to the health needs of the 5th district residents and neighboring areas, is also expected to decongest patients at the provincial hospital in Silay City. The provincial government of Negros Occidental had provided a counterpart of P22.8 million to the P25 million allocated by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to the construction of the secondary hospital in Isabela.

Governor Joseph Maraņon said the new hospital in Isabela will compliment other secondary hospitals, such as those in the cities of Kabankalan and Cadiz.

Maraņon added that they will also upgrade hospitals in other areas of Negros Occidental.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental yesterday granted Maraņon authority to sign the memorandum of agreement to be entered into between the provincial government and the Department of Health, in relations to the upgrading of the Vicente Gustilo Memorial District Hospital in Escalante City, of P1.6 million.

Dr. Melvin Ybanez, Isabela vice-mayor, said the old Isabela Hospital will be converted into a transient quarters for watchers of patients confined at the Ignacio Arroyo Sr. Memorial District Hospital, who will be stranded in the town.*GPB .
