'Madrigal Singers
enchant Bacolod'

The world-renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers came to town and conquered the hearts of the people of Bacolod during their concert at the John Paul 2 Cultural Center (Sacred Heart Seminary) , sponsored by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and The Negros Cultural Foundation.

The Center was filled with music-lovers who wanted to listen to the famous singing troubadours who won the Grand Prize in the prestigious European Grand Prix Du Chant Chorale in France. They have been dubbed Europe's Champion of Champions. It was an evening of musical enchantment as the audience thrilled to their rendition of Filipino and American songs done a capella.

The young, good-looking ambassadors of music showed their versatility and superb blending of voices as they ignited the stage with their fantastic showmanship. The crowd enjoyed their repertoire featuring songs like, "I Love to Laugh", "I Wish I was Single Again", "Big Spender", "Cat's Meow", "Yellow Bird" and "Seaside Rendevouz".

The crowd showed their appreciation by wildly applauding their unique interpretation of Filipino favorites: "Bulaklak", "Leron-Leron Sinta", "Bahay Kubo", "Buchikik", "Tong Pakitong", etc.

A touching finale was their moving rendition of "What a Wonderful World". Everyone enjoyed the concert so much that they gave a standing ovation with shouts of, "More! More!".

They just wouldn't let the concert end! The Madrigal singers were visibly touched at the audience' response and gave encore numbers to the delight of the crowd.

The Negros Museum Building was all decked out with lights for the dinner hosted by the Negros Cultural Foundation. The charming Madrigals happily mingled with the local music lovers as they dined on gastronomic delights specially prepared for the occasion. On hand to welcome them was Lyn Gamboa, president of the Negros Cultural Foundation. Special guests were members of the Cultural Center of the Philippines Outreach program headed by Chinggay Bernardo.*
