14 squads joining PNP
basketball tournament

Fourteen teams joined the opening of the First Regional Training Director's Basketball Tournament yesterday, at the Philippine National Police Regional Training Center in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.

Taking a break from their patrol duties are the squads from the Bacolod City Police Office, the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office, the Maalab Class 2006, and the host Kalasag Class 2007. The University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Criminology Department will also join the hostilities at the camp's court with one squad composed of its criminology students and another manned by its faculty while West Negros College will send one team.

Other teams include McDonald's Centroplex, China Mart-Lotus, Waterworld, Land Bank, ABE, and Bacolod City Hall employees backed by SMART Communications.

"This is also aimed at developing friendship and teamwork among us policemen, especially that our work really requires cooperation," Police Officer I Theo Nick Dioso, the tournament over-all coordinator said in vernacular in an interview with the DAILY STAR yesterday.

Their class also hopes that the competition will improve their community relations by showing that policemen also take a break from manning the streets for law offenders and they know how to mingle with civilians.*PP
