BY PATRICK PANGILINAN

Riverside College standouts Hillary Kritz Baje and Patricia Marie Tan copped the ladies doubles Class A crown to lead the roster of winners in the inaugural Kason Cup Visayas Championships at the Pohang Badminton Center in Bacolod City Sunday.

Baje and Tan, who both saw action for NOPSSCEA in last month's Regional PRISAA, defeated Mary Jane Occasion and Cherry Pink Silva for the title. Sharing the limelight in the age-group singles competition were Jornellous Castro, from Iloilo, and Bacoleņa Monica Amor Barredo, who ruled the boys and girls' 16-Under divisions, respectively, at the expense of Cadiz's Ernesto Layao and Lhariz Rivas.

The 14-Under boys' title went to local shuttler Christian Crisostomo, who outplayed Josh Penn Escubio in the finals, while Precious Ballenas toppled Karina Janine Crisostomo for the 14-Under girls' crown.

Cadiz's Robert Longno captured the boys' 12-Under crown over Renz Adrian Eslabanan, even as Dessa Arino made it a 12-Under sweep for Cadiz, after beating teammate Diane Bibiano in the girls' finals.

Kerr Aloyan Longno was the third Cadiz player to win a crown, following his victory in the boys' 10-Under tournament. Gia Reena Eusebio took top honors in the distaff side with Pamela Marie Tan placing second.

Eldrick Paul Tan was the top shuttler in the 8-Under category, followed by Vincent Lohenarez and Carl Jericho Tan.

The age-group winners will to the semifinals of the 1st Kason National Singles Age-Group Badminton Tournament set from April 19-20 at the SM Megamall in Edsa.

In the doubles competition, Iloilo's Jay-R Joy Fuentes and Dan Valenzuela won the men's Class B, while Glenn Ong and Joed Togado topped the Class C and Noel Kenneth Oņate and Joseph Montuya ruled Class D.

Dionisio Perez and Marlon Pala emerged as champion in Class E.

The Ladies Class D title went to Tata Ramos and Landel Demegillo. Joselyn Locsin and Tess Jereza won the Class E division.

PBC general manager Michael Po said they are happy with the turnout for the Kason event and organizers are planning to add the boys and girls' 18-Under division for next year's lined up events. *PP
