IN MOISES PADILLA
NPAs kill ex-CAFGU
'REBELS ON TACTICAL OPERATION'

Suspected New People's Army hitmen struck again on Tuesday night, killing a former CAFGU member in Brgy. Montilla, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, the military said.

The victim identified as ex-CAFGU member Francisco Bernaldez was the fourth militiaman summarily executed by rebel hitmen in Moises Padilla, Isabela and areas of Guihulngan, in Oriental Negros since the start of the year, military records show.

Lt. Col. Jess Manangquil, 11th Infantry Battalion commander, yesterday said Bernaldez, who used to be a member of the Montilla detachment, was drinking coffee at his sari-sari store on Tuesday night, when the four hitmen barged in, and shot him without any provocation.

Manangquil said that the four suspects, while withdrawing from the crime scene, introduced themselves as members of the New People's Army to those who had witnessed the killing.

The three other victims of rebel assassination in Guihulngan town in previous months for which responsibility was claimed by the Leonardo Panaligan Command, were identified as ex-CAFGU members Rubio Deniega, Nelson Garde, and Rudy Azuncion.

On the other hand, ex-CAFGU member Rogelio Dava survived after he was shot twice by four rebel hitmen who had abducted him last month in Brgy.Luz Sikatuna in Guihulngan.

Manangquil said the New People's Army is targeting CAFGU members, ex-paramilitary men and innocent civilians, to comply with the orders of the Communist Party of the Philippines central committee, for them to conduct tactical offensives in Negros.

Military records show that there have been 43 victims of assassination by the New People's Army from 2005 to this month in Negros island.*GPB
