Food poisoning
hits 30 in Bago
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Thirty residents of Barangay Calumangan, Bago City, suffered from food poisoning yesterday and 21 of them had to be hospitalized, Bago Mayor Janet Torres said.

The mayor said she directed the city's Community Disease Surveillance System Team to help those who fell ill after eating some food at a birthday party Monday afternoon.

Bago City health Officer Pilar Mabasa said most of those affected suspected the cause to be the buko macaroni salad they ate.

Nineteen were admitted at the Bago City hospital, two were brought to Bacolod hospitals and nine were treated as outpatients, Mabasa said.

The victims had attended a birthday party in Purok Rosas, Barangay Calumangan, and were served spaghetti, valenciana, puto, bihon and buko macaroni salad. The victims complained of abdominal pain, fever, chills, nausea and vomiting, she said.

Mabasa said the buko used for the macaroni salad was purchased in Bacolod City on Sunday and frozen for the party Monday. The salad may have been spoiled by the heat when it was served during the party, she said.*CPG
