La Salle spikers
off to bright start

The St. La Salle duo of Marlon Luces and Mark Sabusap got their campaign off to a bright start in the Visayas qualifying leg of the 11th National Nestea beach volleyball tournament at the La Salle Greenhills sand courts in Manila.

Luces and Sabusap streaked to two victories yesterday, beating Cebu-based University of San Jose Recoletos, 21-17, 21-13, in its first match. Luces and Sabusap then routed the spikers from the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, 21-18, 21-17.

But the tandem of Lasallians Realyn Valenciano and Sheryl Silva were not as lucky.

The pair bowed to the USPF volleybelles, 16-21, 11-21.

University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, a national finalist two years ago also took its first loss.

The UNO-R tandem of Julie Ann Billote and Jenny Torres suffered a 17-21, 13-21 loss at the hands of Foundation University.

Valenciano and Silva will face Southwestern University at 8:45 a.m. today in a make-or-break match.

The top two teams in the Visayas qualifiers will advance to the national finals in Boracay, where P200,000 await the champion in both the men and women's divisions. *PP
