PPCRV needs
election volunteers

National chairperson Ambassador Henrietta de Villa of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting challenged the Diocesan Electoral Board coordinators in Oriental Negros and Siquijor to recruit young people to volunteer during the May 14 election.

The DEB that includes PPCRV, the National Movement for Free Elections and Vote Care, is now inviting about 5,000 volunteers as poll watchers.

De Villa said CHAMP should be inculcated in the mind and heart of every Filipino in the country in the conduct of elections. It stands for Clean, Honest, Accurate, Meaningful and Peaceful Elections.

She added that parents should also encourage young people to be involved in ensuring an honest electoral process.

De Villa said volunteer pollwatchers are difficult to find because politicians are offering big amounts of money to volunteer for them.

Besides, at least 75 percent of the young people of voting age in the country today do not care about their rights to suffrage, she added.

De Villa visits different parishes in the country where she said she saw older people as volunteers.*MA
