NFA deploys 2
teams to monitor rice

The National Food Authority in Negros Occidental has deployed two enforcement teams to monitor compliance by grains retailers in the province with the rules and regulations in selling NFA rice.

NFA provincial manager Marianito Bejemino said their agency wants to ensure that the NFA rice reaches the consumer at the right quality and price set at P18 per kilo.

Violators will be fined P1,000 or even more, depending on the gravity of their offense. NFA rice can be bought from 'Tindahan Natin' outlets of the NFA and the Department of Socal Welfare and Development, Bigasan ni Gloria sa Palengke outlets, Bigasan sa Parokya outlets and individual outside market retailers.

Under its Rice Distribution Program last year, NFA-Negros Occidental sold were 444,042 bags through 202 accredited rice outlets equivalent to 94 percent of its target volume of 470,000 bags.

As part of its Regulations Program, NFA conducts a year round monitoring and enforcement of rules and regulations as it requires licensing and registration of all grains businessmen.

In Negros Occidental last year, NFA collected P2.06 million in license and registration fees from 1,818 grains businessmen.

NFA-Negros Occidental is soliciting comments, suggestions, queries and complaints in cases of rice diversion, rebagging and overpricing through tel. nos. 433-2754 or 434-7820.*NLG
