Former Bacolod Councilor Celia Flor filed her certificate of candidacy
for councilor yesterday at the Commission on Elections Office in
Bacolod City.
Flor, a three termer councilor, is running as an independent
candidate together with incumbent Councilor Lyndon Caņa and new
candidate Bart Orola, the brother of former Bacolod Rep. John Orola.
They will hold a press conference today at the Sea Breeze Hotel
in Bacolod City for the formal launching and declaration of their
candidacies. Caņa is running for vice mayor while Orola is running
as councilor of Bacolod.
Flor, an advocate of the women's groups and other marginalized
sectors, said her platform of government is advocacy and practice
of good governance. She said he hopes to push for concrete policies
to put up structures and mechanisms for the people to see where
their money goes.
Flor said she also wants to strengthen the participation of
basic sectors in governance and to focus on the protection of the
environment. She said that during her term she had authored the
Ordinance Creating the Fisheries Code of the City of Bacolod and
the Ordinance Creating the Bacolod City Gender and Development Council.
Meanwhile, Joemarie Regalado, a fireworks supplier and a cousin
of former Councilor Juan Ramon Guanzon, filed his COC at the Comelec
Office yesterday. He is running as an independent for councilor.
On the other hand, Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue will also
file her COC as independent candidate for councilor at the Bacolod
COMELEC Office at 9 a.m. today.
The Nationalist People's Coalition candidates are expected to
file their COC's on Wednesday, while former Mayor Oscar Verdeflor
will file his COC for mayor on Thursday.*CGS
